Gingrich: Out Of Iraq... And Words On Self-Cleaning Toilets

Here’s one of the best things to come out of South Dakota in a while—not to discount Cecilia Fire Thunder’s stand against the state’s anti-medical-abortion-pro-coat-hanger’s law. I take it that Newt is testing out the waters for either a play at electoral politics (again), or he’s a stalking horse for a GOP move to disengage from Iraq. Or both. It’s amazing how Gingrich has reinstalled himself as a spokesman for conservative values after the way he callously dumped his wife after she was diagnosed with cancer. Or maybe that is a conservative value...Seems to me that no matter what values people babble about, left or right, middle of the road—nobody is any more virtuous than anybody else. Like the study that showed kids who took vows of abstinence had sex about as often as ones who didn't.

Speaking of Gingrich, today I cleaned the toilet. How come nobody has ever invented a self-cleaning toilet? It would be like a politician who could apologize: an instant winner.

Scoop for Sioux Falls Paper: Newt Gingrich Wants U.S. Out of Iraq

NEW YORK The Argus-Leader of Sioux-Falls, S.D. was on the scene Monday to report that Newt Gingrich, the former Republican Speaker of the House, had told students and faculty at the University of South Dakota that the United States should pull out of Iraq and leave only a small force there, just as it did post-war in Korea and Germany.

"It was an enormous mistake for us to try to occupy that country after June of 2003," Gingrich said during an informal question-and-answer session at the school, according to the newspaper. "We have to pull back, and we have to recognize it."

Gingrich was greeted with a standing ovation when he appeared at the school for the inaugural Edmund Burke Lecture, named after a man who is often called the father of modern conservatism.

"We are at one of those great intersections in history when we as a people are going to have to have a great conversation with each other," Gingrich said.
